- CAREER PLANNING: Managing Your Future Today
|
- What is Career Planning?
PCIs CAREER PLANNING is designed to help you develop the knowledge you need to help you make sound decisions about the career direction and goals, based on
- What you have to offer, in terms of your talents, work style, and interest patterns;
- What types of jobs and careers are likely to offer you the best chances for success and satisfaction; and
- How to develop an integrated career plan that covers schooling, occupational trends, and personal considerations.
PCIs role is not to do your thinking for you, but to provide you with the necessary information to make sound career choices and develop a systematic career plan for yourself.
Who Can Benefit From Career Planning?
- The HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT considering choices of further education vs. work, college vs. business/ technical school, or one course of study vs. another.
- The COLLEGE STUDENT with questions about the selection of a career direction and choice of a major field.
- The ADULT (for example, veteran or homemaker) entering the workforce, seeking to identify his/her marketable skills and development needs.
- The EMPLOYED ADULT, frustrated with work activities or progress and considering change into either self-employment or into a different corporate setting.
- The OUTPLACED ADULT, deciding whether to remain in the same occupational field or to undertake some new direction.
- The RETIRED INDIVIDUAL, looking for fulfilling leisure activities or a "second career."
- ANYONE, in other words, who wants to choose a course of occupational or educational action related to his/ her capabilities, personality and interests.
- What is the Career Planning Process?
First, you will fill out a personal history questionnaire, to serve as a basis of discussion of your school, work and outside activities.There will be a background interview with one of our professional staff. That interview
-
- Helps define your career planning:
- Gives insights into your background, experience;
- Helps us tailor the testing to your specific needs;
- Provides a context for interpreting your test results.
-
The actual testing will focus on three broad areas:
- Intellectual skills and abilities, to help you understand how to best develop and capitalize on your talents;
- Temperamental and work style, to help you determine the settings in which you will use your talents most comfortably and effectively;
- Interest patterns, to identify the types of career activities likely to prove most enjoyable for you.
On Completion of testing, you will receive detailed feedback and counseling. The PCI staff member working with you will explain the results of the tests and their implications for your career decisions. We will consider the pros and cons of different careers those you have considered, as well as any other options that may be indicated by our findings. Well discuss your plans what you need to do, and how you will need to do it, to fully use the insights you have gained and the choices you will make.
Answers To Frequently Asked Questions About CAREER PLANNING:
What about scheduling a CAREER PLANNING?
Our career planning sessions are done in three steps., testing, interview and follow-up. This can take place in our office, or we can re-create the process through Internet testing and telephone interview/follow-up.
After I complete the CAREER PLANNING process, will I know exactly what I should be doing?
It is most likely that we will identify two or three careers that would offer you the best likelihood for success and satisfaction. We will also identify vocational directions to avoid. We will discuss with you the reasons for both types of conclusions. The final choice would then be up to you, based on what you have learned from the process and from your own investigation of those strong options.
What record do I receive of the CAREER PLANNING process?
Following your feedback/counseling session, PCI provides you a printed report summarizing the test findings, career options identified, and any developmental suggestions made.
Who has access to the results of my CAREER PLANNING?
You have the first chance to learn of the findings and discuss them, and you control who has access to your test results. Students may find it helpful to involve their parents in the CAREER PLANNING process. When an employer sponsors CAREER PLANNING, the results may go to the organization for use as a developmental tool. All involved should agree such arrangements before the process starts.
Is there any follow-up after the report is sent?
If, after you leave PCI, you think of questions you would like to ask, a follow up conference is available to tie up loose ends, as a part of the basic CARER PLANNING package. Feel free to contact us to arrange to come back in.
Will PCI help me find a job in my new career area?
PCI does no job placement; we are not an employment agency. We will, however, make suggestions about job-hunting strategy and self-marketing tactics. If it turns out that you are likely to succeed in accounting, for example, we will advise you on the types of settings in witch accountants work, the types of organizations that employ them, and what employers are likely to look for in terms of individual qualifications.
What does CAREER PLANNING Cost?
The fee for CAREER PLANNING is set from a sliding scale starting at $950 and is based on your current level of earnings.
